Shanna has been passionate about birth work and serving women since she was young. As a mother of 8, with 2 being losses, she has experienced several different pregnancies and births. This has driven her passion to learn even more and to share that knowledge with others. She has been in the medical field since she was 18, working in different roles, including being an EMT for over a decade. As she started to homeschool her children, she knew she wanted to make the transition into birth work. She is a certified doula and holds additional certifications in lactation, bereavement, and body balancing. She started her birth work journey by serving low income families including immigrants and refugees in Atlanta, GA.
Shanna and her family moved back to Fort Wayne in the spring of 2019 and has continued serving the international and refugee populations. She has a heart to serve and train birth workers from all cultures. She believes in the importance of having a community to surround you as you transition into motherhood. She knows through experience that it is important to be able to have the education, support, empowerment, and advocacy during pregnancy and beyond. This is why she trains others in birth work locally and internationally. She believes knowledge becomes empowerment through this journey and offers free childbirth educations to all her clients.
As a homeschooling mom and doula working in the international community, Shanna takes a limited number of clients. She also offers services to women whose first language may not be English. She offers scholarships through her nonprofit for those who have cultural and language barriers. A portion of her fees go to scholarships to support others who might lack resources and support.
